About Loraine

Background

Loraine is active as an English teacher and musician, and has lived in the US, UK, and UAE. Her recent Doctorate of Education work focused on research methods and making evidence more useful for teaching practice. Education and Training

Loraine completed a Doctorate of Education at Durham University in 2023, with a focus on metacognition, mathematics teaching, and research synthesis. Her courses also highlighted teaching for diverse students and contexts, as well as quantitative and interpretive research methods. Previous degrees include a Master's in teaching English as a second language, a Master's in English literature, and a Bachelor's in vocal music and English.

Professional Experience

Loraine has taught academic English and writing at colleges in the US and the UAE, and is active in the education research community. She also has experience in customer service, market research, and music ministry. She currently works as a paid academic researcher and evaluation consultant and is a member of the American Evaluation Association.

Service

Loraine has been blessed to serve as a school volunteer, guardian ad litem, and church choir member. She also co-coaches a high school robotics team and will soon begin leading a community ESL class.

Home and Family

Loraine hails from Michigan and loves crisp fall days spent with loved ones. She now lives in South Carolina and is grateful for the support of her family and friends in her work and life.
